Kitchen Peephole by Nu Interieur Ontwerp

Plywood Sofa by Maliin Stoor

I've been thinking of building something very similar to this sofa for my own home, but never really managed to get my thumb out and actually start the project. Also, I'm not a designer, so wasn't sure how to construct it. But now I don't have to, because my friend Maliin, owner of Maliins Stoore, made a prototype of exactly what I need, and she is planning to start selling it!

Now I just need a new home to put the sofa in. My landlord just let me know she wants her apartment back by January 1, so now I'm on the lookout for a new place to stay. If you have any leads on anything to rent, preferably on or around Södermalm in Stockholm, and at least 50 sqm, I'd be eternally grateful if you'd get in touch! Either here in the comments, via email or through the facebook event I created for the new home hunt. Thanks!

The Apartment in Antwerp, by Vincent Van Duysen

Graanmarkt 13 in Antwerp started out as a chic dining and shopping destination, and as the guests kept saying they wanted to move in, the owners turned their upstairs apartment into a hotel. Inspired by the architect's own home, they asked Vincent Van Duysen to realize the project.

The innovative concept is described by Van Duysen as ’A collection of curiosities where each and every floor tells a story. It’s an idea, but also a sensory location that keeps on evolving as it grows.’

Graanmarkt 13 is created as a welcoming and warm home, where everyone should feel at ease with a restaurant, a shop, a gallery space and an apartment all under one roof. Quite a remarkable concept, don’t you think?

Read a very inspiring and well written interview with Van Duysen here. See all photos from the apartment here.

I just added a new spot on my list of places to visit on my next trip to Copenhagen. The Shop Of The New, recently launched by wood joinery Københavns Møbelssnedkeri, who are most famous for their high quality bespoke kitchens and cabinets. But they are making so much more than that, and the store is also filled with carefully chosen items from other brands.

"An unmistakable world of nordic-ness, ideas and excitement.  The shop is a showcase for diverse and eccentric objects complementing the furniture collection from Københavns Møbelsnedkeri (Copenhagen Joinery) with a selection of graphic art prints, kitchenware, skateboards, paper cuts etc."

"Expanding into bricks-and-mortar means that You will be able to touch and feel our products, and join us for a beer while testing our skateboards."

Stockholm print by Studio Esinam

Studio Esinam, the Swedish graphic design studio behind Elevations, a series of city posters that started with Paris, went on to Tokyo and then Berlin, and who have quickly become a big hit in the blogosphere (probably much because of their great styling), just released a new print. And yay, this time it's Stockholm, my beloved home town! The top four buildings in the poster are famous architectural landmarks such as the city hall and the main city library, and the three house pairs below that are examples of typical residential buildings from different eras.

"In our first print series elevations, we seek to capture the unique feeling of various cities around
the world. Cities that most of us have some kind of relation to, but probably haven’t seen in the
format of the architectural drawing. By studying the façades, directing attention to details that mostly
pass unseen, we hope to touch upon qualities to the architecture that contribute to the specific
feeling the city imposes on you."

At the same time, Studio Esinam is launching a new poster series called Landmarks, starting with Gothenburg and Brooklyn as the first motifs.

Intro and Finlandia Caviar by Joanna Laajisto

Two wonderful new projects by Finnish interior architect/designer Joanna Laajisto just landed in my inbox. What a great way to start the week!

Joanna Laajisto Creative Studio has designed a new shop and restaurant concept for Finnish quality seafood company Lappeen Savukari oy. Finlandia Caviar Shop and Restaurant is a place where you can purchase the finest quality caviar and oysters, or enjoy them on the spot with a glass of bubbly or vodka.

The objective for the interior concept was a fresh, Scandinavian look that compliments the historical building it is located in. The color scheme of subdued greys, creams and hints of blue is inspired by the Finnish winter landscape; though with the use of natural wood and lighting, the place manages to be warm and inviting.  All of the furniture pieces are by Finnish furniture manufacturers and local woodworkers.

The next project is Intro:
In the city of Kuopio, Finland, an old classic restaurant, Intro, has undergone a major renovation designed by Helsinki based Joanna Laajisto Creative Studio.

The new Intro with a total of 450 sq.mt is divided into a restaurant with 50 seats on one side and a nightclub of equal size on the other.

The new restaurant is light and airy with a subtle color palette. Some punches of color are added in the textiles and fixtures, such as the sofas covered in woven Kvadrat wool fabric by Paul Smith and Delightful designed red lamps suspended above the counter height table. The monochromatic geometric pattern of the floor tile brings interest and texture to the space without being too bold.  Most of the furniture is custom made for the space. The white pendant lamps above the dining tables are Funnel by small Slovanian company Vertigo Bird. The wooden dining chairs are by Ton.

COS x Numen at Palais de Tokyo

This mezmerizing art installation in Palais de Tokyo in Paris caught my eye today. It was created by art collective Numen/For Use, with support from fashion brand COS. Numen did a similar installation here in Stockholm a few years ago, and I was lucky to experience that together with my daughter. Although, the amount of hair and dust tumbling around in there made my impression a bit less positive, but it sure looks beautiful from the outside, and it was great fun to climb around in.
While browsing their site I also came across these net installations, and since halloween is coming up, what can be more appropriate than some giant spider webs?

The old leather factory

Very excited to see the full feature on this styling by Pella Hedeby! It's in the latest issue of Plaza Interiör. The apartment is located in Läderfabriken, an old factory building recently redeveloped into a residential house by Oscar Properties. I really love these old industrial buldings, wish there were more of them left in the city...

Retro industrial kitchens in new project by Riksbyggen

Today's most drool worthy pictures? These 3D renders from a new residential project by Riksbyggen, with interiors inspired by the retro industrial style, in an old building from the 1930's. The kitchens are what impressed me the most, with the butcher style tiles, smooth matte cabinet doors and leather clad handles. This is very close to what I'd pick for myself if I had free reins to design a kitchen. Actually, if it wasn't for the fact that this building is an old mental hospital, I might have considered moving in... But I guess the new tennants will be braver than me. Would you dare to live in a former asylum?

Swooning over Swoon

SP34, a design hotel in Copenhagen

Hotel SP34 used to be known as Fox, a "design hostel" of sorts, filled with vibrant colours and unique wall art. However, through an amazing renovation this is now a four star location for Danish design classics in stylish environments, all kept in natural hues with dashes of brass. I don't have to tell you I like this incarnation better, do I?

Curater - Acne's latest project or a spoof?

0

Have you heard of Curater? I just read about it over at Trendenser, and the concept seemed so silly to me that I had to click over to their site to see what it was all about. Apparently it's a subscription service for art, in a digital form, streamed to a special screen in your home. The stream is curated by "leading art institutions and internationally renowned curators" (all unnamed though), and is planned to be launched "sometime in the next 12 months". The Curater site looks like a standard Squarespace template, and while there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, it's not what one expects from a brand like Acne. And digital frames? Wasn't that Christmas Present of the Year in 1996?

Whether this is for real, or just a big spoof, is yet to be seen. Either way, I'm not convinced.
